Rebuilding

RISING FROM THE ASHES....

We last reported the unfortunate fire at Levuka Public Primary School in October last year. We are happy to announce that due to the prompt action of LPS and its old scholars, rebuilding has commenced with a target of moving back in some time in April.
The School Board approached the Chief Executive Officer of the Ministry of Education for financial assistance. They have given $400,000.00 for the construction of the new school. The agreement with Education CEO is that government build the school and the old scholars resource all 12 classrooms.
We thank these committed people for their actions in getting the rebuilding under way so quickly. We now ask for your continued support for the school and its students.

Guess what, Mum and Dad????

ROMANCE IS ALIVE AND WELL AT THE HOMESTAY

Congratulations to Catherine and Paul from England, who have just announced their engagement.
Yesterday, February 7th, they travelled by small boat to a small neighbouring island. There, with a backdrop of a white sandy beach and swaying palm trees, Paul knelt in the shallow water and, with fear and trepidation, asked Catherine to be his lifelong partner. Not sure who was more relieved!!!!
Thanks for choosing Levuka for this memorable occasion and we wish you both a long and wonderful life together.

Our new Fire Station

A NEW FIRE STATION FOR LEVUKA

March 30 saw the opening of our new Fire Station. Our congratulations go to the management of the National Fire Authority for their initiative in building this station. This is the prototype of several new stations to be built in different parts of Fiji.
The opening ceremony was very impressive, and we were honoured to have Col. Pio Wong, the Minister for Local Government, Housing, Squatter Settlement and Environment, as the official guest. His ongoing support for the National Fire Authority has been tremendous.
The highlight of the ceremony was the march by our volunteer fire fighters, carrying the national flag from the old fire station to the new one. After the flag was raised, they sang the "Fireman's Hymn". It certainly brought a tear to your eyes.
We have had several bad fires in Levuka in recent years and it is comforting to know that we are better prepared now.

Lots of new friends

NOT JUST ANOTHER SCHOOL DAY!!!

Lani (6 years old) and her brother, Damon (5 years old) visited Levuka a few weeks ago with their parents, Haydn and Anna. One of the highlights of their short stay here was a day spent at St. James Anglican Primary School.
If you look hard enough at the photo, you will see that Lani actually brought her school uniform from Melbourne, Australia, to wear for this special day.
It was a great learning experience for all of the kids - one especially that Lani and Damon will never forget.
Come back again soon, Lani and Damon. Your new friends are all looking forward to seeing you again.
